DESIGNED FOR YOUR SPACE. CREATED FOR YOUR STORY.

A beautiful painting can transform a room. But sometimes, finding an existing artwork that perfectly fits your space, personality, colour palette and story can be surprisingly difficult.

That is where commissioned art comes in.

Instead of choosing a painting and adapting your space around it, commissioned art begins with your space and your vision. The artwork is created specifically for you.

More Than Just a Painting

A commissioned artwork is not simply a larger or more expensive painting. It is a collaborative creative process.

The artist considers the character of the space, its architecture, dimensions, lighting, colours and overall mood. Your personal preferences, memories, interests or the story you want the artwork to convey can then become part of the creative direction.

The result is an original artwork that feels naturally connected to its surroundings.

Designed Around Your Space

Every interior has its own personality.

A contemporary apartment may call for a bold abstract composition. A traditional Kerala home might be complemented by a detailed landscape or a contemporary interpretation of a familiar cultural scene. A hospitality space may need a large statement artwork that becomes part of the guest experience.

With commissioned art, the possibilities are not limited to what is already available in a gallery or catalogue.

The artwork can be created around the space.

From Idea to Artwork

At VARA, the commissioned-art process can begin with a conversation.

We understand:

The space where the artwork will be installed
Available dimensions and proportions
Interior colours and materials
Lighting and architectural details
Preferred artistic styles
Personal stories, themes or references
The desired mood and visual impact

From there, our artists develop the creative direction, explore concepts and bring the selected idea to life on canvas.

Concept → Sketch → Creation → Finishing → Installation

Every stage is considered with the final space in mind.

For Architects & Interior Designers

Commissioned art can also become an important part of an interior design project.

Architects and interior designers can collaborate with VARA to develop artwork that responds to the design language of a residence, office, hotel, restaurant or other space.

The artwork can be planned alongside the interiors, allowing consideration of:

Scale. Colour. Composition. Texture. Mood.

Rather than treating artwork as something added at the very end, it can become an integral part of the design.

For Homeowners

Your home should reflect more than your furniture and finishes.

It should reflect you.

Perhaps you want a painting inspired by a place that holds special memories. Maybe you have a family story you'd like to preserve visually. Or perhaps you simply want a large original artwork created specifically for the room you've designed.

A commissioned painting gives you the opportunity to create something that exists nowhere else.

Art That Becomes Part of the Story

Years from now, the value of a commissioned artwork may not simply be in the painting itself.

It may be the story behind it.

The room where it was first displayed.
The inspiration behind the subject.
The artist who created it.
The moment in life when it was commissioned.

That is what makes original art personal.
